The second Test match of the series between India and Bangladesh kicked off at the Green Park International Stadium in Kanpur. India's captain Rohit Sharma, and his team are determined to clinch a victory in this match and secure a complete whitewash against Bangladesh.

Before the match even began, Rohit Sharma made a decision that was noteworthy for its rarity. He became the first Indian captain in over 60 years to make a bold move that would undoubtedly influence the course of the game.

Despite expert predictions favoring batting first on the Kanpur pitch, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, made a surprising decision. He won the toss and chose to bowl first, a move that hadn't been seen from an Indian captain in Kanpur for over 60 years. The last time an Indian captain made such a choice was Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1964, during a Test match against England. Moreover, this was the first time in nine years that India had opted to field after winning the toss in a home Test match. The previous instance was against South Africa in 2015 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Before the match, there were speculations that India might make changes to their playing XI, potentially including an additional spinner and replacing one pacer. Some reports even suggested that Jasprit Bumrah might be rested due to workload management. However, when Rohit won the toss and chose to field first, he announced that India would be playing with the same unchanged XI for the match. This marked the first time in five years that India had fielded the same playing XI in two consecutive Test matches.

Heavy rain forces early stumps

Talking about the Day 1 play, persistent rain forced the officials to call off early stumps as only 35 overs were bowled. The hosts were looking in a good position as they managed to get three wickets and push the visitors almost on the backfoot. Bangladesh were on 107/3 by 35 overs at the close of Day 1.
