'Weren't up to mark': Babar Azam takes blame for Pakistan's 6-run loss against India in T20 World Cup 2024

Rohit Sharma-led Team India defeated Babar Azam's Pakistan in a thrilling contest by 6 runs in match 19 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, on June 9 (Sunday). After the match, Pakistan's captain took the blame and said they were not up to the mark in the first six overs again. India's batting first got all out on 119 runs but then great effort from the bowlers helped India restrict Pakistan to 113/7 and win the match.

Pakistan on loss against India

Babar addressed that his team bowled well but it was the batting department where they lost the match. He also talked about how not batting well in the powerplay cost them the match. The Men in Green could only post 35 runs in the first six overs and even lost the wicket of Babar, who got out after scoring 13 runs off 10 balls.

“We bowled well. In the batting, lost back to back wickets and had too much dot balls. Tactics was simple to play normally. Just strike rotation and the odd boundary. But in that period we had too many dot balls. Can't expect much from tailenders. Our mind was to utilise first six overs in batting. But one wicket down, and again we weren't up to the mark in first six. Pitch looked decent. Ball was coming on nicely. It was a little bit slow, and some balls extra bounce. Have to win last two matches. Will sit and discuss our mistakes but looking forward to the last two matches,” said Babar Azam in the post-match presentation.

 

Pakistan almost out of T20 World Cup 2024

 

Pakistan cricket team suffered another big defeat in the marquee event and this has almost ended their chances to qualify for the Super 8 stage. Now they are in a tough spot as they not only have to win the remaining two matches by a big margin but also hope that India or the United States lose their remaining matches.
