IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra reveals player who will be tasked with finishing matches, tips Indian batter to shine in new role
Shahrukh Khan has given an account of his ball-striking ability on multiple occasions but consistency is something that has lacked from his performance.
Gujarat Titans (GT) coach Ashish Nehra revealed that the franchise will bank on Shahrukh Khan to play the role of finisher in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Gujarat-based franchise forked out Rs 7.4 crore in the auction to secure the services of Shahrukh. When asked which played will be tasked with finishing matches, Nehra affirmed that Shahrukh will be the main actor in the role.
"We're going to see Shahrukh Khan become the main actor," said Nehra.
How has Shahrukh Khan faired in IPL?
Shahrukh Khan has featured in three seasons of the glitzy league. The right-handed muscular batter has given an account of his ball-striking ability on multiple occasions but consistency is something that has lacked from his performance.
The 28-year-old has played 33 matches in the IPL, scoring 426 runs at a strike rate of 134.81. He is yet to register a fifty-plus score in the cash-rich tournament.
While playing for the Punjab Kings last year, Shahrukh enjoyed his best campaign in IPL. He featured in all 14 matches for the franchise and scored 156 runs at a strike rate of 165.96. He smashed 13 fours and nine sixes in the competition last year.
Nehra tips 2 overseas recruits to make an impact
In the auction, the Gujarat Titans also acquired the services of Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and Australia's talented cricketer Spencer Johnson. Nehra tipped the two overseas recruits to make an impact for the franchise in the upcoming IPL.
"IPL is a very long tournament. It's not like we're playing just three, four, five matches. Conditions are also difficult in May and June. It will be hard on the players, especially fast bowlers. Injuries can also happen. So every player we have is important and those we have are experienced. Spencer Johnson, if you see, wherever he's played, he's played well. Azmatullah Omarzai again, he has all the skills in this world as an allrounder and we are very hopeful that they'll have a great IPL," Nehra said.
