CSK clinch crucial win, boost playoff hopes

CSK edged closer to a coveted IPL playoff spot with a thrilling five-wicket victory over RR on May 6. Chasing a modest target of 142 on a challenging pitch, CSK chased it down in 18.2 overs, losing only five wickets.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored the chase with a composed 42 runs off 41 balls, including a solitary four and two sixes. Rookie Sameer Rizvi provided a late flourish with a quickfire 15 not out from just eight deliveries, including three boundaries, to seal the win for CSK. This victory came after a controversial dismissal where Ravindra Jadeja became the third player in IPL history to be given out for obstructing the field.

Earlier, the CSK bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, restricting the Rajasthan Royals to a total of 141 for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Pacer Simarjeet Singh led the attack with a three-wicket haul for just 26 runs. Tushar Deshpande chipped in with two wickets for 30 runs, while the rest of the bowling attack maintained tight lines and lengths. For the Royals, Riyan Parag emerged as the lone bright spark with an unbeaten knock of 47 runs off 35 balls, including three sixes and a four. However, the lack of support from other batsmen meant they could only manage a below-par total on the day.
