IPL 2024 Orange Cap: Heinrich Klaasen jumps from 7th to 3rd spot despite 9-run knock vs PBKS, Abhishek Sharma too improves; check full list
Heinrich Klaasen climbed up to third in the list of most run-getters in the ongoing Indian Premier League. However, Orange Cap holder Virat Kohli continues to enjoy his time at the top of the list.
The IPL 2024 saw another nail-biter contest on April 9 when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) edged past Punjab Kings (PBKS) by just two runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali. The match between SRH and PBKS also led to some fluctuations in the list of most run-getters in the ongoing IPL 2024 as the race for coveted Orange Cap heats up. Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as the SRH's match-winner, smashing a quickfire 64 off just 37 balls. His crucial knock, which included a 50-run partnership with Abdul Samad in only 18 deliveries, propelled Hyderabad to a total of 182/9 despite Arshdeep Singh's impressive four-wicket haul for Punjab. Chasing a modest target of 183, Punjab fell agonisingly short, finishing at 180/6. Though Shashank Singh (46* off 25 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (33* off 15 balls) played valiant knocks towards the end, it wasn't enough to secure victory. Contributions from Sam Curran (29) and Sikandar Raza (28) couldn't bridge the gap either.
Meanwhile, in the race for the Orange Cap, awarded to the tournament's leading run-scorer, there's been a slight shift in the top spots. Heinrich Klaasen moved up to third with 178 runs after his knock of 9 in this match. However, Virat Kohli remains firmly in the lead with a staggering 316 runs. Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudharsan holds onto the second spot with 191 runs, followed by Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag (186 runs) and GT skipper Shubman Gill (183 runs in four matches).
