Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a big margin of 60 runs and eliminated them from the IPL 2024 playoff race.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 60 runs at the HPCA Stadium, in Dharamshala, on May 9. This was RCB’s fifth win of the season in the twelve matches and have kept their playoff hopes alive. Faf Du Plessis-led side has improved their net run rate with this victory, which is going to play a crucial role in their race to the top four. Meanwhile, PBKS suffered their eighth defeat and moved down to the ninth spot with only eight points in twelve matches. They are officially out of the playoff race too.
Meanwhile, with PBKS moving down, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have risen to the eighth spot in the points table. However, MI also got eliminated from the playoffs race after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 10 wickets, on May 8. Hardik Pandya-led side has won only four out of their twelve matches.
Among the top four, SRH and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are placed in the third and fourth spots respectively. SRH have played twelve games and won seven out of them and CSK have secured six wins in their eleven encounters.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) both are standing with 16 points in the first and second position respectively. Both the teams have secured eight wins in eleven matches but KKR has a net run rate of 1.453 which keeps them at the top of the table. Shreyas Iyer led side won their last encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a big margin of 98 runs on May 5.

CSK and GT to compete in crucial clash
Defending champions CSK will be taking on the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad, on May 10. This game is very important for CSK as securing a win will give a major boost to their playoff chances. However, the Shubman Gill-led side who are currently standing with eight points right at the bottom of the points table have a very slight chance for the playoffs. A loss in this match can eliminate them from the playoff race.
