IPL 2024 Purple Cap standings: Two PBKS pacers make surprise entry into top 5 despite defeat against SRH, check full list here

The race for the Purple Cap, awarded to the IPL's leading wicket-taker, is getting intense day by day. Punjab Kings' star left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has rocketed up the leaderboard, grabbing four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and now sitting tied for third place with 8 wickets. However, Rajasthan Royals' Yuzvendra Chahal edges him out for the higher spot due to a more economical bowling style (6.35 vs. 8.72).

Meanwhile, there's been a shift in the lower ranks. Lucknow Super Giants' fast bowler Mayank Yadav, previously competing for a top spot, has dropped to eighth after missing a match due to a side strain injury during their encounter with Gujarat Titans.

Chennai Super Kings' Mustafizur Rahman remains firmly in the lead, holding onto the Purple Cap with an impressive 9 wickets so far.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal (RR): The lone spinner in the top 10, Rajasthan Royals' Yuzvendra Chahal, has been weaving his magic. He's grabbed 8 wickets from 4 matches, showcasing exceptional control with an outstanding economy of 6.35.
3. Arshdeep Singh (PBKS): Punjab Kings' speedster Arshdeep Singh has risen through the ranks after his stellar performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, bagging 4 wickets. He currently sits tied for third place with 8 wickets in 5 matches.
4. Khaleel Ahmed (DC): Delhi Capitals' Khaleel Ahmed occupies the fourth spot with 7 wickets from 5 matches. However, he hasn't had any explosive performances with multiple wickets yet. His best bowling figures stand at 2/21.
5. Kagiso Rabada (PBKS): South Africa's pace machine, Kagiso Rabada, joins Mustafizur Rahman as the only two foreign players in the top five. He's bagged 7 wickets in 5 matches with an economy of 8.65.
