IPL 2024: Varun Chakaravarthy makes big statement on Impact Player rule, says 'how much ever the bowlers cry, you have...'

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakaravarthy made a big statement on the contentious Impact Player rule which has become a boiling topic in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While numerous players have criticised the rule that has tilted the game in batters' favour, others have urged the bowlers to stop cribbing about the rule and focus and improving their performance.

After bowling an immaculate spell against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 29 (Monday), Chakaravarthy spoke about the highly debated Impact Player and urged the bowlers to stop crying about it and take it as a challenge.

"Somewhere we have to accept that this IPL is different and we have to move on. The Impact Player was there last season, main thing is teams have used it better this season. They want to charge from first, how much ever the bowlers cry, you have to take up the challenge," Chakaravarthy said after the match between KKR and DC in the post-match conference.

Chakaravarthy bagged three wickets and conceded just 16 runs in his spell of four overs. His impact was paramount in KKR restricting DC to just 153/9 in 20 overs. The Knight Riders chased down the target with ease and registered a commanding seven-wicket win.

Ravi Shastri shuts bowlers for cribbing about Impact Player rule

Former India all-rounder and national team coach, Ravi Shastri has strongly responded to the current trend of batters dominating bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Addressing the issue, Shastri encouraged the bowlers to leverage the existing conditions to distinguish themselves.

"Great opportunity watching this @IPL for bowlers to focus on the time tested and execution of things that have lasted the Test of time. Rather than in pursuit to add baggage to your limited armoury that you can't execute. Get stuck in to your strengths and focus. Great OPPORTUNITY to Stand out. Cut the whinging and mourning. FOCUS," Shastri wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
