Irfan Pathan lost his cool on his younger brother during a World Championship of Legends match. The duo got engaged in a heated exchange after a horrible mix up which led to Irfan's run out.
Indian Champions' star all-rounders Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan were involved in an ugly fight during the match against the South African champions in the World Championship of Legends 2024. The heated exchange occurred after a miscommunication between the brothers at a crucial moment in the game. South Africa defeated India by 54 runs in the final league match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 at Northampton's County Ground on Wednesday, July 10. Despite the loss, the Indian team secured a spot in the semi-finals, finishing fourth in the six-team points table.
Chasing 211 runs to win, India struggled at 77/5 within 11.3 overs, with Robin Uthappa (23), Naman Ojha (5), Ambati Rayudu (2), Yuvraj Singh (5), and Suresh Raina (21) all dismissed early. However, Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan helped rescue the team with a crucial 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Horrible mix-up between Pathan brothers
During a crucial moment in the India Champions' chase, veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn bowled the 19th over. Irfan Pathan, facing the first ball, tried a powerful shot but only managed to pop it up in the air towards the long-off fielder. The ball bounced before reaching the fielder, denying a potential dismissal. Unfortunately, confusion between Irfan and his brother Yusuf led to Irfan getting run out. Yusuf initially started running for a second run but then stopped suddenly. Irfan, already halfway down the pitch, was caught in the middle with no time to return safely. Upset with the miscommunication, Irfan was seen expressing his frustration towards Yusuf after the dismissal. The incident was captured on video and quickly spread on social media.

India Champions' semifinal hopes were precarious at that moment. Yusuf Pathan ensured India's qualification for the semifinals by securing the necessary 153 runs. After the match, Irfan Pathan celebrated their team's advancement to the knockout stage by kissing Yusuf on the forehead.
Earlier, the South Africa Champions posted a formidable total of 210/8 in their 20 overs against India. Jacques Synman played an aggressive inning, scoring 73 runs off 43 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. Richard Levi contributed 60 runs off 25 balls, with five boundaries and five sixes.
Despite a strong finish in the death overs, the Indian bowlers couldn't prevent South Africa from achieving a significant total. Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh showcased his vintage off-spin skills, emerging as the top performer among the Indian bowlers by picking up four wickets for 25 runs in his four overs.
