Star Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan who sustained an injury in the Buchi Babu tournament stunned everyone by making a shocking return in round 2 by becoming part of India C's playing XI for the Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India B. This was a surprising appearance as when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the updated squads for the Duleep Trophy, Ishan was not named in any of the squads. During round 1, he part of Team D before being ruled out due to an injury and being replaced by Sanju Samson. He made this appearance more memorable by smashing an astonishing hundred. He played a 111-run knock from 126 balls.

India C saw their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad walking back in the form of retired hurt at the beginning of the game itself. After that, Rajat Patidar and Sai Sudharsan joined a 96-run opening stand to stabilise their innings. However, they again found themselves in a tough spot as they lost both of them in the span of three balls. Sai scored 43 and Rajat returned after a good 40. However, Ishan Kishan did now allow India B to get their grip tight, and his 189-run partnership with Baba Indrajith put them in the box seat again.

Where Ishan Kishan scored an amazing 111, Baba Indrajith also played an amazing knock of 78 runs. However, India C again lost two set batters in quick successions. By Tea, India C were 239/2. After, Ishan and Baba's departure, Gaikwad walked out again and progressed the scoreboard. By the 75th over, India C managed to post 342 runs on the scoreboard at the loss of 4 wickets.

Ishan Kishan who has not been part of the Indian team for a long time and was taken out of the central contract has been trying hard to make a return to the Indian side. This performance is another step towards highlighting his presence in the eyes of BCCI and will help him make a strong statement for his comeback.
