'It was necessary for me to...': Shreyas Iyer sends strong 'intent' message to Rohit Sharma-Gautam Gambhir after India D's defeat
Shreyas Iyer made a strong start to the Duleep Trophy with a half-century. Despite his impressive innings, India D lost the match to Ruturaj Gaikwad's India C.
India' star batter Shreyas Iyer made a strong comeback in the Duleep Trophy, scoring a half-century in the first round. Despite his impressive innings, India D fell short against Ruturaj Gaikwad's India C. Iyer's aggressive batting against the pace bowlers showcased his skill and determination. Iyer's aggressive batting style was on full display in the second innings of the Duleep Trophy match. Despite facing challenging conditions with the swinging ball at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur, Iyer attacked the pace bowlers from the outset. His positive approach helped him score a quick fifty, which was a significant boost for India D. Aiming for a return to the Indian team, Shreyas Iyer played a powerful innings of 54 runs off 44 balls against India C. His innings included nine fours and a six. Iyer expressed satisfaction with his innings, pressing the importance of putting pressure on the fast bowlers.
Shreyas Iyer happy with his intent despite India D's defeat in Duleep Trophy
"It was necessary for me to show intent because their bowlers were bowling great, in the right areas and the ball was seaming as well. I just wanted to take the attack and see if we could get a decent total on board. When the ball got old, it was stopping a bit. I wanted to capitalise on my intent, but ya, I would take that fifty any day," Shreyas Iyer said after the match.
Iyer's aggressive batting style was widely appreciated by fans on social media. His powerful cuts and lofted shots were a highlight of the match. Despite Iyer's efforts, India D was unable to secure a victory. Ruturaj Gaikwad's team successfully chased down a target of over 230 runs, with Abhishek Porel's unbeaten 35 runs guiding them to victory. Iyer acknowledged that the Anantapur pitch was challenging for bowlers to contain the opposition batters, making it difficult for India D to restrict the scoring.
"The pitch did not offer much, there was no spin for the bowlers. Saransh bowled in great areas. There were few patches on the pitch created by the fast bowlers where the ball spun from outside of the off-stump, other than that it was quite dead. Hopefully, we learn from this and move on," Iyer concluded his post-match interview with the broadcaster.
Shreyas certainly made his intentions clear with his batting ahead of India's Test series against Bangladesh and will want captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir to notice his efforts in the red-ball outing.
