'It's the trophy I haven’t won before...': Pat Cummins makes his intentions clear for Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia

Pat Cummins has been a pivotal figure in Australia's recent dominance in international cricket. The Aussies clinched both the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship in 2023. However, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has proven to be an elusive prize. With India set to tour Australia for a five-match Test series later this year, Pat Cummins has issued a strong warning to the visitors and has expressed his strong desire to lift the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

However, Australia's last Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph came in the 2014-15 season on home soil. In contrast, India have won the last two series in Australia, and will be aiming to complete a historic hat-trick.

Cummins Eyes Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Pat Cummins, the architect of Australia's recent World Cup triumphs in both ODI and Test formats, wants to lift Border-Gavaskar Trophy this time around. Despite Australia's recent dominance in world cricket, the elusive series victory against India remains a coveted goal for the team. Cummins expressed optimism about Australia's chances of claiming the trophy on home soil, highlighting the desire within the squad to achieve this milestone.

"It’s the trophy I haven’t won before … this is the one trophy a lot of our group haven’t ticked off. We’ve achieved some amazing things over the last few years as a Test group. You kind of back yourself to win every series at home. I think you need to try and be up there in the upper echelon of teams. That’s what lies ahead of us this summer," Cummins told Fox Cricket.

Australia Ready for Indian Challenge

 

While acknowledging India's formidable strength as a cricketing nation, Cummins expressed Australia's readiness to face the challenge head-on. The Australian captain conveyed a sense of confidence in his team's ability to compete at the highest level.

 

"They’re a really good side. We play them quite a lot, we know them really well, but we feel like we’re really well placed also," he added.

 

The highly anticipated India-Australia Test series will commence on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The five-match series will then move to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, promising a thrilling battle between the two cricketing powerhouses.
