Joe Root equals Steve Smith, Kane Williamson in Test centuries tally, Virat Kohli left behind in fab four

Joe Root has become the fastest England batter to complete 32 Test tons. He has equaled the tally with Kane Williamson and Steve Smith for most Test tons by Fab-4 batter.

Star batter Joe Root smashed his 32nd Test century on Day 4 of the second Test against the West Indies at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, on July 21 (Sunday). He has now equaled the tally with Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith for most Test centuries among active players. Virat Kohli is the only batter in the ‘Fab-4’ who is currently lagging behind in this list as he only got 29 tons in red-ball cricket. Root's century has helped the English team gain a good lead over the Windies team.

 

Root makes many records

 

Joe Root has become the fastest England batter to complete 32 Test tons after surpassing Alastair Cook. He is also the third fastest overall to reach this milestone as he got here in just 260 innings. He is also the highest run-scorer in Test cricket among active cricketers. Root has also equaled the record for most Test tons (six) for England against the West Indies and most Test hundreds (five) at the Trent Bridge ground. He is currently just behind Alastair Cook in the list of English batters with the most Test runs and Test centuries.

England batting first posted 416 runs in the first innings with the help of Ollie Pope's 121 run-knock. In reply, West Indes posted 457 with the help of a ton from Kavem Hodge and fifties from Alick Athanaze, and Joshua Da Silva. Joe Root's century in the second innings have allowed England to gain a strong position once again in this match. He got out after scoring 122 runs. This could turn out to be match-winning for the hosts and help them seal the three-match series 2-0

 

Virat Kohli left behind in Fab-4

 

Currently, Virat Kohli is the only batter among the Fab-4 list with less than 30 Test tons. On the other hand, all three Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson have 32 Test tons. Kohli would like to increase his numbers with the upcoming Bangladesh series.
