Veteran Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla has opened up on his team's disappointing campaign in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League after an 18-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 60 of IPL 2024 at the Eden Gardens, on May 12 (Saturday). He said that they have not performed as a unit in big games and could not find rhythm which is a crucial thing in T20 cricket.

Piyush Chawla on MI's performance

Piyush Chawla said that the team has really talented players but things have not gone their way. He emphasised on capitalising small moments, something that the five-time champions have failed to do so this season.

"T20 cricket is all about momentum and sadly, we couldn’t find that rhythm from the start. We haven’t been lacking in just one area. As a unit, we haven’t performed in crucial games, and that’s something we need to accept," said Piyush Chawala in the post-match interview.

"We have a talented squad but things just haven’t gone our way. In big games, you need to win those small battles as a team, and sadly, we faltered today," Chawla added.

KKR qualify for playoffs

After a stunning victory over Mumbai Indians, the Knights have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs with 18 points. On the other hand, MI have just four wins in 13 matches and now only have one match left. They are already out of the playoff race but would like to finish this season with a win. With mega auction coming for next season, there would be some major changes in the MI camp and they would try to get over this dreadful season and return as the dominant five-time champions.
