Team India might have secured a 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh under KL Rahul's captaincy but the right-handed batter's form with the bat remained a major cause of concern. Rahul looked like a pale shadow of himself in all four innings he batted against Bangladesh. Owing to his poor returns with the bat, the right-handed batter has been heavily criticised by former cricketers and fans with many even calling for his ouster from the national Test side. Rahul aggregated just 57 runs in four innings against Bangladesh at an average of 17.13.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that Rahul should be dropped from India's squad for the home series against Australia next year. The former opening batter reckons that if captain Rohit Sharma is fit for the Border-Gavaskar series, then Rahul is the one who should be axed.

"KL Rahul has to go without a doubt, in my opinion. He had a pretty ordinary series as a batsman. If Rohit Sharma comes in, KL has to make a way," Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, despite Rahul's poor display with the bat, India managed to secure a hard-fought series win against Bangladesh. Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer held their nerves on a spin-friendly track to prevent Bangladesh from pulling off a Christmas miracle and register their first win against India. The unbeaten 71-run eighth-wicket partnership ensured India win the second Test in the first session of Day 4 by three wickets and win the series 2-0 to retain their second spot on World Test Championship (WTC) 2022-23 table.
