KL Rahul's Instagram story sparks retirement rumours
Despite his return, Rahul's performance did not meet expectations. He is now expected to be part of the Indian team that will soon face Bangladesh.
KL Rahul teases big announcement
The right-handed batsman, KL Rahul, is set to make a significant announcement. Rahul has shared a brief message on his Instagram story, stating, "I have an announcement to make, stay tuned..." This intriguing message has piqued the curiosity of his followers.
The short message shared by KL Rahul on Instagram has sent netizens into a frenzy of speculation. One of the most concerning theories is that he might be announcing his retirement from international cricket. However, given that Rahul is only 32 years old, many believe that he still has a significant amount of cricket to offer. The speculation has ignited debates, with some claiming that Rahul's retirement is premature. In response to the buzz, a fake screenshot claiming Rahul has announced his retirement has been circulating online. However, all the retirement speculations are misleading.
Another group of fans believes that KL Rahul's announcement may be related to his stint with the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Some speculate that he might announce the end of his association with the team.
KL Rahul will be seen in action in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 which is set to start from September 5.
KL Rahul has faced challenges in maintaining a consistent place in the Indian Test team due to injuries, fluctuations in form, and competition for the wicketkeeping role with Ishan Kishan, KS Bharat, and Rishabh Pant. A strong performance in the Duleep Trophy could significantly improve Rahul's chances of securing the coveted first-choice keeper spot for the upcoming Australia tour for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025.
Notably, earlier, Akash Chopra, a former India opener, noted that unlike the other candidates in the Duleep Trophy, KL Rahul, who is part of Team A, does not have "WK" written next to his name, indicating that he is not primarily a wicketkeeper. Chopra expressed his belief that with Jurel also in the squad, Jurel is more likely to be the wicketkeeper, while Rahul will focus solely on batting.
“KL Rahul cannot be a wicketkeeper. I mean you don't even have 'WK' written after his name in the squad list. And since you picked Dhruv Jurel in that same team, it means, he will be the keeper. So, Rahul is no longer your keeper for Test cricket. And it is okay because he came at a time when Rishabh wasn't there, you will definitely put Rahul in the playing XI. He is also not the captain. He could have been in a different team as well. He or Pant could have been the captain instead of Abhimanyu Easwaran, but neither are captaincy candidates anymore,” he had earlier said.
