'Coming from business backgrounds.. doesn’t guarantee that you will win': KL Rahul makes bold statement on IPL owners

Star wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul made a big remark on the owners of the Indian Premier League. BCCI is expected to announce the rules for the mega auction and retention policy of the next IPL by the end of August. Rahul believes that in IPL, the team owners are businessmen and they select a player based on data, but that does not guarantee that the player's performance will remain the same throughout the season.

"Owners coming from business backgrounds in IPL do research and pick the team, but it doesn’t guarantee that you will win every game. You might get the best player based on data, but they might have a horrible year. Every player can have a bad day in sports," Rahul said in a podcast with Nikhil Kamath.

Meanwhile, during the IPL 2024 season, a heated debate between Lucknow captain KL Rahul and his team owner Sanjeev Goenka was caught on camera. The incident was followed by their team's loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad.  where chasing 166, SRH ended the match in just 9.4 overs and won the encounter by 10 wickets. Lucknow owner Sanjeev Goenka came to the field from the stands and was seen questioning the skipper in a heated conversation. Since then, it has been believed that Rahul may not be a part of Lucknow in the IPL 2025 season and the management of LSG may release him.

KL Rahul likely to reunite with RCB

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, LSG is looking to part ways with Rahul. Till IPL 2024, Rahul was the most expensive Indian player in IPL for LSG for a sum of Rs 17 crore. In 2024, he scored 520 runs in 14 games, averaging 37.14 and striking at 136.13. Now as per reports, he can witness a homecoming in IPL going back to the team where it all started for him. The 32-year-old started his IPL career at RCB in 2013 and was later part of the 2016 squad that made the final. Playing as a middle-order batter for RCB in 2016 he had a stellar reason in the run to Final with 397 runs at a strike rate of 147. The batter from Karnataka has played 132 matches in the IPL, with 4683 runs at an average of 45.47 and a strike rate of 134.61 to his name. He has notched 37 half-centuries and four tons in the biggest T20 league of the world.
