LSG sign former Australia batter with 61.87 Test average as consultant a week ahead of IPL 2024
With just a week to go to IPL 2024, Lucknow Super Giants have acquired the services of former Australia cricketer Adam Voges as a consultant.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed former Australia batter Adam Voges as a consultant for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After Lance Klusener, Voges is the second big name to join LSG's coaching staff this month.
“Voges is a brilliant addition to the Lucknow Super Giants support staff. He and I have a long association together through Western Australia cricket and Perth Scorchers. He himself is a very successful head coach,” LSG head coach Justin Langer said.
“When I was the coach there, he was the captain. He took over from me and has done a phenomenal job in West Australian cricket. So, to have him involved with LSG is a great bonus for all of us. He is an outstanding person and an excellent coach. He will bring in so much. We are very thrilled to have him involved,” he added.
The other members of the LSG coaching staff are S Sriram (assistant coach), Morne Morkel (fast bowling coach), Pravin Tambe (spin consultant), Jonty Rhodes (fielding coach) and MSK Prasad (strategic consultant).
Voges’ international career
Despite making his Test debut at the age of 35, Voges was compared to legendary Don Bradman for his batting average. In his short Test career, he scored 1,485 runs from 20 Tests at an average of 61.87 including five centuries and four half-centuries.
He played 31 ODIs and seven T20Is as well. His batting average was phenomenal across formats. In ODIs, he scored 870 runs from 31 matches at an average of 45.78 including one century and four half-centuries. In T20Is, he scored 139 runs from seven games at an average of 46.33 including one fifty. He made his last international appearance in a Test match against South Africa in 2016.
Voges’ IPL career
Earlier, Voges has been a part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise. He made his IPL debut in 2010. He scored 181 runs from nine matches at an average of 45.25. His IPL career-best score was 45 not out.
LSG’s season opener
KL Rahul-led LSG will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Voges' former franchise RR on March 24 in Jaipur.
