Maharashtra CM announces massive prize money for Rohit, Suryakumar, Yashasvi, Shivam with special statue after India's T20 World Cup win

The Indian cricket team is basking in the glory of their T20 World Cup 2024 victory. They secured a thrilling win against South Africa by just 7 runs in the final played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. With this India lifted their second T20 World Cup title and ended their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought. Captain Rohit Sharma deserves a significant amount of credit for India's success. He led the team with exceptional skill and determination, proving himself to be a true leader both on and off the field.  His batting performance was equally impressive, with a tournament-high score of 257 runs.

Mumbai Indians players Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube also played crucial roles in India's triumph.  While their contributions may not have been as statistically dominant as Rohit's, their consistent performances throughout the tournament were vital in securing victory.

Rohit Sharma's Tactical Masterclass Leads India to T20 World Cup Glory

 

India's T20 World Cup victory wasn't just about batting prowess. Captain Rohit Sharma's leadership played a crucial role in guiding the team to the coveted trophy. His tactical acumen shone throughout the tournament. He made astute bowling changes and positioned the fielders strategically, often disrupting the opposition's plans and creating pressure situations. These brilliant decisions proved instrumental in India's success. While Rohit's leadership was a constant force, Suryakumar Yadav emerged as a batting hero in key moments. Notably, his exceptional performances in the semi-final against England and the challenging match against the USA were crucial in propelling India forward. These were games where the team needed a spark, and Yadav delivered with vital knocks.

 

While Suryakumar Yadav's batting statistics were solid throughout the T20 World Cup, with 199 runs in eight games and two fifties, it was his sensational catch in the final that truly cemented his place in the tournament's history. This breathtaking grab near the boundary line against David Miller proved to be a game-changer, swinging the momentum decisively in India's favor and paving the way for their eventual victory. Shivam Dube also played a valuable role as a middle-order all-rounder. He consistently delivered impactful knocks, contributing a crucial 27 runs off just 16 balls in the final. This electrifying innings, featuring three sixes and a four at a strike rate of 168.75 (the highest among Indian batters in the final), showcased his power-hitting abilities and provided a vital boost to India's batting performance.

Maharashtra CM announces whopping prize money for Rohit, Suryakumar, Shivam and Yashasvi

 

The Maharashtra government celebrated the contributions of Mumbai players to India's T20 World Cup triumph. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a special prize money of ₹11 crores to be shared amongst the four Mumbai players - Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

In addition to the financial reward, Rohit Sharma, the victorious captain, received the prestigious Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue as a token of appreciation for his leadership. This celebration coincided with Rohit Sharma's emotional retirement announcement from T20 Internationals. He leaves the format as the all-time leading run-scorer with a staggering 4231 runs. His impressive career includes five centuries, the most by any batsman in T20I history, along with 32 fifties and a phenomenal career strike rate of 140.
