Manish Pandey lashes out at umpire for giving him out caught behind in Maharaja T20 Trophy; watch video
Manish Pandey asked the umpire whether he saw the ball going past him or not after he gave him out caught behind during Maharaja Trophy T20 encounter.
Hubli Tigers skipper Manish Pandey was left frustrated as he was given out caught behind by the umpire during the Maharaja Trophy T20 2024 clash against Bengaluru Blasters at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
In the 16th over of the innings, Pandey tried to make room for himself against Kranthi Kumar. But Kranthi followed him and cramped the batter for room. Pandey was beaten by it as wicketkeeper Shivkumar Rakshith collected it.
As umpire raised his finger, Pandey was not happy with the decision. While Bengaluru Blasters players celebrated, it seemed like Pandey was saying to the umpire whether he even saw what happened. He signaled that the ball had hit his back pad. The square leg umpire had to intervene and pacify the veteran batter. As he walked back to the dressing room, he had a few more words to say to the umpire.
He got out after scoring six runs from 12 deliveries. When he was dismissed, Hubli Tigers were 119/4 and needed 24 runs from 27 deliveries. Pandey's wicket did not lead to a collapse. While Karthikeya KP struggled and departed for a single-digit score, Aneeshwar Gautam and Manvanth Kumar L took Hubli Tigers hope with five wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.
Easy win for Hubli Tigers
Earlier, Pandey won the toss and opted to field first. LR Chethan's 35-ball 48 and Shubhang Hegde's 36-bal 52 helped Bengaluru Blasters post 142 on the board before getting bowled out. Vidwath Kaverappa and Manvanth bagged three wickets each. In the run chase, opener Thippa Reddy and wicketkeeper-batter Krishnan Shrijith scored in 40s.
This was Hubli Tigers' third win on the trot. They are unbeaten in the tournament and placed second on the points table just below Bengaluru Blasters who have a better net run rate (NRR).
Pandey’s numbers in the season
Pandey has scored 61 runs from three innings in the season so far. In the first match, he contributed with an unbeaten 14-ball 24 in a rain-curtailed affair. In the second game, he scored 31 runs from 30 runs in the run chase.
Recently, the 34-year-old expressed that he would like to play for his home franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
