Massive boost to India in WTC 2023-25 points table, leave Australia behind after record-breaking 434-run win over England

The Rohit Sharma-led India are taking long strides to strengthen their chances of reaching the third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final. With a 434-run win, their biggest in Test cricket by runs, India registered their fourth win from seven games in the current WTC 2023-25 cycle to move up to the second spot and leave Australia behind. 
 

India have a win percentage of 59.52. They have suffered two losses whereas one match ended in a draw. Australia are placed third on the table with six wins from 10 games and a win percentage of 55. The top spot is occupied by New Zealand with three wins from four Tests and a win percentage of 75.
 

England's chances of qualifying for their maiden WTC final took a major hit. They remained in the eighth position, only above Sri Lanka with a 21.87 win percentage. The Ben Stokes-led side has lost four Tests out of eight and won three whereas one ended in a draw.

Here's how the WTC 2023-25 points table looks after India versus England 3rd Test:

Two wins won’t guarantee India top spot
 

If India manage to win the remaining two Tests in the five-match series, they will not be able to dethrone New Zealand. Even after two more wins, their win percentage will be over 68. However, if India lose one of the two Tests, they will slip to the third spot again. 
 

On the other hand, if England win the remaining Tests and with it win the series 3-2, they will climb to the sixth spot, just below Pakistan. If they win one of the remaining two Tests, they will move up one spot.
 

England’s ‘Bazball’ flight crashes against India 
 

After a close 28-run win in Hyderabad, England have suffered two comprehensive defeats. The 434-run defeat is England’s second-biggest by runs in Test cricket history. In the first innings, England gave away the advantage with reckless shot-making after Ben Duckett’s 153-run knock. 
 

On Day 4, in the mammoth run chase of 557, there were neither flashes of the Bazball approach nor a solid defense. They crumbled under the scoreboard pressure and suffered a batting collapse. No.10 batter Mark Wood turned out to be the top-scorer with a 15-ball 33 cameo that took them past the 100-run mark. Ravindra Jadeja dazzled at his homeground taking a five-wicket haul to bowl England out for 122.
