Earlier, Rohit Sharma called it quits to T20I cricket right after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title after beating South Africa in a thrilling final on June 29. Following this, India will start gearing up for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe which is slated to start from July 6. BCCI Faces a Pleasant Dilemma with Captaincy Options

With plenty of options to choose from, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finds itself in a favorable yet challenging position. KL Rahul was once considered a potential successor to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, having been out of action for a while, he seems unlikely to be named skipper at the moment. Shreyas Iyer, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title, is another strong contender. With Gautam Gambhir as the KKR mentor and now in line to be India's next head coach, the prospect of a Shreyas-Gautam duo at the international level is intriguing. Sanju Samson, with his experience leading the Rajasthan Royals, is another name in the mix. Additionally, Jasprit Bumrah, who won the Player of the Tournament in the Men's T20 World Cup 2024, could also be a suitable candidate for captaincy.

However, with several strong options available, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Hardik Pandya are the most likely candidates to take over as India's next T20I skipper.
