Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard may have left his Indian Premier League (IPL) playing days behind after becoming their batting coach but he is still capable of haunting the best of the best bowlers. On August 10, he became Afghanistan’s premier spinner Rashid Khan’s nightmare as he smashed him for five consecutive sixes in the clash between Southern Brave and Trent Rockets.

Pollard showed no mercy to his MI New York teammate Rashid to bring the crowd at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on their feet. The veteran batting all-rounder became the first batter to hit consecutive sixes off every ball of an over in T20s and the Hundred format. In 2021, he did it against Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya.

In the run chase of 127, Southern Brave were struggling having lost six wickets for 78 runs. In the last 20 balls, they needed 49 runs. Pollard was struggling having scored just six runs from 14 balls. Skipper Lewis Gregory brought back Rashid into the attack. He had conceded 10 runs from the first 15 balls he bowled.

Pollard switches to top gear

On the first ball, Pollard went on the back foot and hit the ball over deep mid-wicket. On the next ball, Rashid pitched it up. Pollard could not time it properly but got it over long-off fence. Rashid followed it up with a similar delivery and Pollard hit it way further in the same direction. On the fourth ball, Pollard backed away and clobbered it over deep mid-wicket. On the last ball, Rashid tried to bowl it away from Pollard's arc but he hammered it over long-on for another six.

Jordan takes Brave home

In the next over bowled by John Turner, he hit two fours. In the penultimate over, Sam Cook conceded four runs. Also, Pollard was run out by substitute fielder. He contributed with 45 runs from 23 balls and took Southern Brave to the doorstep of victory. In the last over, Jofra Archer was run out but Jordan finished the run chase with a boundary off the penultimate delivery.
