Big Blow to Pakistan ahead of T20 World Cup 2024, Mohammad Rizwan likely to miss New Zealand and England Series due to injury - Report
Pakistan's star wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan has likely picked up a hamstring injury which might force him to miss out on the England and New Zealand series.
Pakistan might be in trouble ahead of the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 as their star wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan has likely picked up a hamstring injury during the third T20I against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, on April 21 (Sunday).
Mohammad Rizwan's injury
As per reports from Pakistan Cricket, Rizwan's hamstring injury appears to be serious. He was experiencing discomfort while batting in the third T20I after which he was declared retired-hurt as a precautionary measure. He is likely to miss out on the remaining T20I of the New Zealand series and might also miss on the Ireland and England tour ahead of the mega tournament which is set to be held in the West Indies and USA.
Pakistan Cricket Board's medical panel has received Rizwan's scan report and are also seeking additional opinions from doctors in the UK on Rizwan's injury. As per the sources, the medical panel advised him to rest for a period of two to four weeks considering the seriousness of his injury.
Pakistan set to face New Zealand in 4th T20I
Currently, the Men in Green are preparing to take on New Zealand in the fourth T20I of the five-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, on April 25. The series is currently tied at 1-1 and both teams will try to gain a lead of 2-1 after a good win in the 4th match.
As for Pakistan's wicket-keeper role, if Rizwan is unable to play in the Lahore match, Usman Khan will be donning the gloves. He stood behind the stumps in the third T20I after Rizwan walked out due to his injury.
