India's pacer Mohammed Shami has heaped praise on star batter Virat Kohli for his unwavering commitment to the game. Kohli is widely regarded as the best batter across formats in the modern era and is recognised as the face of cricket by the International Olympic Commission. He has earned admiration from Shami for his dedication to fitness and performance.
Shami lavishes praise on Kohli
Shami highlighted Kohli's relentless approach, noting that he gives his all in every aspect of the game, including bowling. According to Shami, Kohli maintains a focused demeanour and exudes greatness wherever he goes.
"He keeps his plans very clear, be it fitness, batting. Even if you give him the bowling, he will do the job, even with his cross feet (wrong foot) action. Woh ek aisa banda hai jo kahin bhi rahe woh apne frame (zone) mei rehta zaroor hai. Woh jab bhi aayega, woh show karega apne aap ko ke haan 'mai kya hu (he is such a person who stays focused wherever he is. Whenever he returns, he shows who he is)," said Shami on Cricbuzz.
‘He has everything that young people need in their role model’
Shami lauded Kohli's qualities by saying that he is an exemplary role model for the younger generation.
"If there are such role models for today's generation, imagine how much they will get to learn -- fitness, skill and so on. Every aspect you look at, you find loyalty for everything. That is reflected in Virat Kohli. He has everything that young people need in their role model," he added.
The 35-year-old has been in exceptional form ahead of the T20 World Cup. He emerged as the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. His recent standout innings of 92 runs off 47 balls against Punjab Kings (PBKS) propelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a commanding victory. RCB thrashed PBKS by 60 runs in Dharmasala on May 9.

Notably, he has scored 634 runs from 12 innings at an average of 70.44 and a strike rate of 153.51 including one century and five fifties so far in the IPL 2024.
