Most liked Asian, Virat Kohli shatters BTS record for most liked Instagram post in Asia

Indian cricket team's star batter Virat Kohli shattered a big record and became the Asian with the most liked Instagram post. He surpassed BTS's Taehyung for this record.

Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock against South Africa and helped the Indian cricket team end their 11-year-long trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados. Along with the batting maestro, his Instagram post about the T20 World Cup win also shattered many records. Virat has now surpassed the previously held record by BTS's Taehyung.

 

Virat Kohli shatters biggest Instagram record 

 

Indian batting maestro's Instagram post about the Indian cricket team's win in the T20 World Cup Final got more than 21 million likes after which he shattered the record for most-liked Instagram post by an Asian which previously belonged to BTS member Taehyung. He captioned the post by writing "Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it."

This post has made Virat Kohli the first Indian, first Asian athlete, 2nd Asian, and 5th athlete in the world with more than 21 million likes on a single Instagram post. The cricketing icon is also the most followed Indian on Instagram and the third most famous athlete in the world. His popularity is easily visible in the number of followers he has as he is the 16th most followed personality on Instagram. As for now, the Virat has almost 271 million Instagram followers. Taehyung's post has 21.01 million likes and Virat's post has more than 21.19 million likes.

 

Virat retire from T20Is

 

Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is. However, he would continue to play T20 cricket in the Indian Premier League. Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are the other two big names to have also announced their retirement from T20Is.

 

"This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. Wanted to Yes I have, this was an open secret. Not something that I wasn't going to announce even if we had lost. Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward. It's been a long wait for us, waiting to win an ICC tournament. You look at someone like Rohit, he's played 9 T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it. It's been difficult to hold things (emotions) back and I think it's going to sink in later. It's an amazing day and I'm thankful," said Virat Kohli in the post-match presentation.
