Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni caused a stir on the internet with a Facebook post on Monday evening, March 4, teasing a new 'role' for himself in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
This announcement sparked widespread speculation among fans about whether MS Dhoni is planning to take on the opening role in IPL 2024, especially after it was revealed that Devon Conway would be unavailable for the first half of the season. Conway's absence, confirmed on Monday morning, is due to a thumb injury requiring surgery and an eight-week recovery period.

As excitement builds over Dhoni's teased announcement, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has kicked off its pre-season training. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar, who is aiming for a return to the national team, is among the squad members getting ready for the IPL season starting on March 22. The team has started its training sessions in full swing, marked by the presence of domestic players, indicating the commencement of preparations for the forthcoming season.
Since the IPL's debut in 2008, MS Dhoni has played a pivotal role in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lineup, starting with his acquisition for a record $1.6 million in the first auction. Dhoni has led CSK in every season they have competed in, with the exception of 2016 and 2017 when he was with the Rising Pune Supergiants due to CSK's temporary suspension.
Although there was a brief handover of leadership to Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the 2022 season, Dhoni resumed his captaincy role mid-season and guided CSK to their fifth championship in 2023.
Despite rumors of his retirement following the 2023 season, Dhoni has expressed his intention to play in the 2024 season, motivated by the strong support from fans during CSK's successful campaign. Dhoni and his wife Sakshi were also spotted attending Anant Ambani's pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar.
