Mumbai Indians legend leaves PSL 2024 midway to return to India, Here’s why?

Legendary West Indies cricketer Kieron Pollard, currently representing Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season, departed from the team's camp on March 1 to attend the pre-wedding celebration of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar. Among the attendees were other renowned cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan.

 

Pollard, who is the leading run-scorer for Karachi Kings in PSL 2024, temporarily left the squad to travel to India but is expected to rejoin once the event concludes. In the five matches he played for the Shan Masood-led side, the 36-year-old all-rounder has amassed 196 runs at an impressive average of 98.00 and a striking rate of 161.98.

 

Several pictures and videos capturing Pollard's arrival in Jamnagar for the pre-wedding celebration circulated widely on the internet on March 1.

Pollard participated in the Karachi Kings' match against the Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 29. However, he will be absent for the Kings' upcoming match against Multan Sultans on March 3, which is scheduled to take place at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

 

He is anticipated to rejoin the team on March 4 in Rawalpindi, after which he will be available to play against the Quetta Gladiators on March 6.

Pollard is MI's batting coach

The former West Indies captain, regarded as one of the best overseas players in the IPL, has been part of the Mumbai Indians franchise since 2010. He served as a player for the Ambani-owned team for 13 years. Then, before the 2023 season, he was appointed as the batting coach for the Rohit Sharma-led side. In the upcoming season of the lucrative league starting on March 22, Pollard will continue in his role as MI's batting coach.

Although he hasn't retired from professional cricket, the right-handed batter recently played for MI Cape Town in the SA20 and MI Emirates in the ILT20. He featured in the ILT20 final, where, under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran, MI defeated the Dubai Capitals to claim victory in the second edition of the T20 tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
