The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies is just more than a couple of weeks away. Ahead of the T20 extravaganza, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have made a major announcement regarding the playing conditions for the second semifinal. There will be no reserve day in case rain plays spoilsport at Providence Stadium, Guayana on June 27. However, an additional 250 minutes have been allotted to complete the knockout encounter.

The decision has been taken considering if the semifinal is played on the reserve day, the team playing the second semifinal will not have a day's break before they play in the final at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29.

As per Cricbuzz, the additional four hours and 10 minutes have been allotted considering the travel time of teams from Guyana to Barbados. However, the first semifinal which is scheduled to be played at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad, will have a reserve day. If rain plays spoilsport on June 27, then the first semifinal will be played on the same day as the second semifinal.

"All four teams have exactly the same opportunity to finish a game. For performance reasons, to ensure teams do not have to 'play, travel, play' on consecutive days, the decision was taken to allocate the additional time for the second semi-final immediately post the game because the game is a 10.30 AM start, whilst the first semi-final is an evening start, which means it is not feasible to pay all additional time on the same day. This also ensures that fans in the stadium have the best chance of seeing a result on the day," a source told Cricbuzz.

Rules for tie break in semifinal

If the semifinal is tied, the teams will fight it out in a Super Over to determine the winner. If weather conditions don't permit a Super Over and no result is possible, then the team which finished higher in the Second Round Group will automatically advance to the final. Meanwhile, India are likely to play the second semifinal if they progress to last four.
