In the post-lunch session, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahadat Hossain Dipu formed a resilient partnership, reaching a 50-run stand. By the end of the session, Bangladesh had crossed the three-figure mark, scoring 103-4 in 39 overs. The duo went unbeaten on 34 and 21, respectively.

Before lunch, Bangladesh faced challenges as openers Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided a steady start with a 29-run stand. However, they departed in consecutive overs to the left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel.

In the morning session, Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto also fell in successive overs, leaving Bangladesh in trouble at 47-4. Patel and Santner took two wickets each as Bangladesh struggled against spin after an initial phase of seam bowling.

At lunch, Bangladesh managed to prevent further damage, reaching 80-4. Mushfiqur contributed 18 runs to the 33-run partnership with Dipu, who scored 14 runs.

The woes continued as Mahmudul Hasan Joy edged one to short-leg off Ajaz Patel, leaving Bangladesh at 29-2. Joy scored 14 before his dismissal. Shortly after, opener Zakir Hasan departed, skying one to mid-on off Mitchell Santner, ending the 29-run opening stand.

Mushfiqur Rahim's historic dismissal marked the highlight of the day, while Bangladesh faced early setbacks against New Zealand's spin bowling, finishing the morning session at 80-4.
