In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim reversed his retirement decision on Saturday, March 23 and has made himself available for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to start from June 2, later this year.

Just last November, Wasim had shocked fans by announcing his retirement from international cricket. His most recent T20I appearance for Pakistan came in April 2023. Some reports suggested a rift between Wasim and former captain Babar Azam, potentially influencing his decision. However, with Shaheen Afridi taking over the T20I captaincy from Babar, the situation seems to have changed for Wasim. Imad recently hinted at a possible return and confirmed that Shaheen had contacted him to gauge his interest in playing in the T20 World Cup. This has now culminated in Wasim officially coming out of retirement.

“I am happy to announce that pursuant to meeting PCB officials, I have reconsidered my retirement and am delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in T20i format leading up to ICC T20i World Cup 2024,” Imad wrote in a post on X.

“I would like to thank the PCB for reposing trust in me and I would give my very best to bring laurels to my country. Pakistan comes first!” he further added.
