BIG NEWS: Sunrisers Hyderabad announce new captain for upcoming IPL season, Aiden Markram stripped of captaincy

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 4 (Monday) announced Pat Cummins as their captain for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament. Cummins will replace South Africa star Aiden Markram, who led the franchise in the previous edition of the IPL in 2023. Cummins will be tasked to turn the fortunes of the franchise around as they finished last in the IPL standings last year.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement. 

Cummins - A modern-day legendary captain 

Pat Cummins enjoyed a stellar 2023 as the skipper of the Australian national team. After enduring an early setback with a defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, Cummins demonstrated exceptional leadership and resilience, steering his team to a string of impressive victories. Their determination and spirit were on full display as they clinched a commanding victory over India in the World Test Championship Final at The Oval, a testament to their perseverance and skill.

The team's winning momentum continued as they successfully retained the Ashes in England, showcasing their dominance and team cohesion. 

Cummins - A World Cup-winning captain 

The year's crowning achievement came with a historic triumph at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Overcoming an initial hurdle of two losses, they staged an extraordinary comeback, winning nine consecutive matches to secure their sixth World Cup title, a feat that speaks volumes of their fighting spirit and tactical acumen.

Cummins excelled not just as a visionary leader but also as an impactful all-rounder. His invaluable contributions across Test matches were pivotal, bolstering Australia's pace attack while also providing essential runs with the bat.
