Legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid ended his tenure as the Indian head coach at the highest of the highs by helping the Indian cricket team to win the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 title after defeating South Africa in the Finals. Now, reportedly, the Indian Premier League's current champion Kolkata Knight Riders have approached Dravid to replace Gautam Gambhir and become the next KKR mentor ahead of the next season, where they will be defending their title.

As per a report from News18 Bangla, there are chances that Dravid might start a new stint as a mentor with KKR after his successful run with the Indian cricket team comes to an end. This means he would be swapping roles with Gambhir, who is most likely to become the next Indian head coach and take over Dravid's office from the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

Why is BCCI delaying new head coach announcement?

Indian Express has reported that BCCI and Gambhir are in their final stages of contract and salary negotiation. The Indian Cricket Board will make the announcement once these discussions are done. Gambhir is likely gonna draw much more salary than Rahul Dravid, whose yearly remuneration was around ₹12 core. At the time, BCCI opened invitations for the head coach position, they made it clear that the salary would be negotiable as per the experience. However, Gambhir does not have the experience of coaching an International or a Ranji team but had some successful stints with IPL franchisees. He has been a mentor of the LSG side for a couple of years, helping them reach the playoff, and one year with KKR, where he helped the franchise lift the trophy.
