Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) overseas leg-spinner Adam Zampa has pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to personal reasons.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Zampa pulled out of the cash-rich tournament to be with his family as he has not had enough time due to the Big Bash League (BBL) and Australia's white-ball tours including the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023.

Zampa's IPL numbers

Zampa did not get enough chances in the previous edition of IPL. He played six games and took eight wickets. His economy rate was 8.55 runs per over.

Zampa made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS) under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He took 12 wickets from just five games including six wickets for 19 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 31-year-old is one of three bowlers in IPL history to take a six-wicket haul.

In the next season, he played under Steve Smith and took seven wickets from six games. In 2020, he played for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and took two wickets from three games.

The Australian spinner was picked for Rs 1.5 crore by the Rajasthan-based franchise and was retained ahead of IPL 2024.

Headache for Rajasthan Royals

With leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad, Zampa was not expected to get many chances. He would have been used as an impact player on turning tracks. As Zampa pulled out of IPL 2024 on short notice, RR will be looking for a replacement from the pool of players available.

Samson-led RR will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against KL Rahul's Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Jaipur on March 24.
