Rajasthan Royals (RR) automatically earned the IPL 2024 playoff spot and became the second team to qualify for it following Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who secured their place earlier. RR's playoff entry was sealed after Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 19 runs in their IPL 2024 clash on Tuesday, May 14. With DC's win, RR's position in the top 4 was solidified. RR now have 16 points in 12 matches while KKR have 19 points in 13 matches.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals almost secured their playoff spot on Sunday, but a loss to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pushed their qualification back. Thankfully, Tuesday brought good news for the Royals thanks to the DC victory.

Now, the Rajasthan Royals set their sights on an even higher goal – a top 2 finish in the IPL 2024 standings. They have a chance to achieve this in their upcoming match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati on May 15.

The race for the IPL 2024 playoffs is heating up. Here's a breakdown of the current situation:

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): RR secured their playoff spot with 16 points from 12 games thanks to tonight's loss by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). KKR, the league leader with 19 points, had already qualified earlier.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): With 14 points each, both CSK and SRH have a chance to reach 16 points and potentially grab a playoff spot, depending on other results. SRH holds a slight advantage with two games remaining compared to CSK's one.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC): Both teams still have a mathematical chance, but their paths are more difficult. RCB needs a specific win against CSK (either by 18 runs if batting first or chasing within 18.1 overs) to qualify due to their lower Net Run Rate (NRR). DC's chances are slim due to their even poorer NRR.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): The recent defeat against DC has almost eliminated LSG from playoff contention. They would need a series of unlikely results to overcome their low NRR disadvantage.
