'Let's do away with this impact player rule': RCB star pacer Mohammed Siraj makes urgent plea as batters continue to rule the roost in IPL 2024

Since the time former India captain Rohit Sharma voiced his opinion on the negative effect of the 'Impact Player Rule' on cricket, several other cricketers, both current and former, have come forward and opined on the cons of the rule. In the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 'Impact Player Rule' has resulted in teams scoring gigantic scores, and as a result, the bowlers have found it extremely difficult to stem the flow of runs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star pacer Mohammed Siraj made an urgent plea to the decision-makers to part ways with the 'Impact Player Rule' which seems to have taken the sting away from bowlers.

"Firstly, let's do away with this impact player rule. It's becoming increasingly tough for the bowlers out there. With flat wickets, everyone just comes in and starts smashing from ball one. 270-280 runs have become very normal in this year's IPL," Siraj told the broadcasters ahead of the RCB's match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Glaring numbers reveal the plight of bowlers

In the ongoing 2024 IPL, a team has scored over 250 runs five times. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have crossed the threshold of 250 runs three times while KKR and RCB have done it once each. From the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008 to the last edition of the cash-rich tournament in 2023, only twice did a team manage to score more than 250 runs. The numbers clearly reflect how the dynamics have tilted heavily in the favour of batters.

What did Rohit Sharma say on 'Impact Player Rule'?

Recently, Rohit Sharma said that the 'Impact player Rule' is holing the all-rounders back and is just entertainment which is hampering the game.

“I am not big fan of impact sub rule. It is going to hold all-rounders back, guys like Dube & Sundar aren’t getting to bowl which is not a good thing for us - it is entertaining as there are 12 players, giving lots of options,” Rohit said 'Club Prairie Fire’ podcast.
