The crucial clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings in match 68 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, on May 18 (Saturday) has a rain threat looming large over it. There are major chances of persistent rain and bad weather spoiling and affecting the match proceedings.

Bengaluru weather forecast

A report from weather.com states that there will be precipitation up to 100 percent along with thunderstorms in Bengaluru, on May 18 (Saturday) and it will get higher between 5 pm to 11 pm. This can lead to a reduced-overs match but there is also a chance of potential washout.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's qualification scenario if rain forces 5-over match

RCB need to beat CSK by 18 runs or chase their target in 18.1 overs if they score 200 runs in order to get a better net run rate than them and qualify for the playoffs. However, this is the scenario if there is a 20-over match. The scenario only gets difficult for the hosts if they are forced into a 5-over match.

If the clash is reduced to a 5-over match, batting first RCB still need to win by 18 runs but things get difficult if they come out to chase. If CSK batting first post 81 runs in 5 overs, RCB would have to chase it down in just 3.1 overs. The hosts would be praying that rain doesn't play a factor as it will only push them more into the corner and reduce their qualification chances
