RCB vs CSK: Virat Kohli scripts history, becomes first batter to record this massive IPL feat in do-or-die game at Chinnaswamy

Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting maestro Virat Kohli, etched his name in IPL history during their crucial match against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, May 18. Kohli became the first player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 3,000 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

This achievement wasn't his only first. Kohli also holds the record of being the only IPL batsman to reach 3,000 runs at a single venue across all 17 seasons of the tournament. While Rohit Sharma comes close with over 2,000 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai (2295), Kohli stands alone in this unique accomplishment.

Kohli's Chinnaswamy Legacy

Virat Kohli's journey at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium began in the IPL's inaugural match in 2008, though his first outing for RCB wasn't a run-fest (dismissed for 1 run). However, over the years, he has transformed the stadium into his personal fortress. Across 86 IPL innings at Chinnaswamy, Kohli has amassed a staggering 22 fifties and 4 centuries, with his highest score being a dominant 113. He's also a six-hitting machine at this venue, having launched a whopping 124 sixes.

This dominance extends beyond the IPL.  Including his knocks in T20Is for India at Chinnaswamy since 2012, Kohli's total score at the stadium surpasses 3400 runs.

Virat Kohli's dominance at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium extends beyond just 3,000 IPL runs. His four centuries are the most ever scored by an IPL batsman at a single venue, placing him in a league of his own. This feat is even more impressive considering it's the joint-second highest in all T20 cricket, only surpassed by Chris Gayle's remarkable five centuries at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Kohli's reign doesn't stop there. Currently leading the run scorers' list in IPL 2024, he also sits atop the all-time IPL batting charts. As he closes in on becoming the first batsman to reach 8,000 IPL runs, his legacy at the Chinnaswamy and beyond continues to grow.

Kohli gave RCB a cracking start and scored a blistering 47 off mere 29 balls before getting dismissed by Mitchell Santner in the 10th over to leave Bengaluru scoreboard at 78/1.
