Rishabh Pant has his say on 'Tel lagao dabur ka, wicket lo Babar ka' viral chant ahead of India vs Pakistan's T20 World Cup clash

The stage is set for cricket's biggest rivalry to explode at the T20 World Cup 2024 where Asian Giants India and Pakistan will lock horns with each other. Their encounters between India and Pakistan are always a spectacle to watch out for. Fans on both sides crank up the intensity, making these matches even more electrifying. Despite being regular opponents, India vs Pakistan has become a must-see event in every ICC tournament.

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant recently spoke about the electric atmosphere created by the fans' chants. Asked about a viral chant targeting Pakistan's captain Babar Azam, 'Tel lagao dabur ka, wicket lo Babar ka' ("Apply Dabur oil, take Babar's wicket"), Pant highlighted how these chants add to the excitement of this high-octane clash.

"If we are going to see it from a player's perspective, then they also work hard for their country. These kind of banters keep on going and the interesting part is, it brings a lot of emotion from both the countries. These narratives made by the fans like 'Tel lagao Dabur ka, wicket lo Babar ka' (laughs), makes the competition more interesting," Pant said on India TV's show, 'Aap Ki Adaalat'.

 

Fresh off his match-winning knock against Ireland, Rishabh Pant is a lock for India's playing XI against arch-rivals Pakistan.  The wicketkeeper-batsman has been on a tear since returning from a serious car accident.  He showcased his talent in IPL 2024, leading the Delhi Capitals in runs scored (446) with a blistering strike rate of 155.40.  Indian captain Rohit Sharma practically guaranteed Pant's spot at number 3 for this high-profile clash on Sunday.

 

"I had to look at Rishabh in the few games in IPL to make up my mind on where he will bat in the World Cup," Rohit said in the pre-match conference ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash.

Pant also talked about the incident during IPL 2024 where he tried sledging batting juggernaut Virat Kohli.

 

“It happened during the RCB game. I was banned without doing anything. I tried a lot to prevent it but it was uncontrollable, not in my hands. Sitting outside I thought I'll disturb the mindset or something because the RCB dressing room is right behind the sightscreen. At first I did not know. I thought they are calling their own teammates. Then when I realised, I thought I might as well tease him a little more. I didn't give him the chance to say anything because I escaped," Pant concluded.
