Team India's swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant sent a strong message with a dominant display in their only T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday, June 1. Playing at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York, Pant announced his return to Indian colors in emphatic fashion.
Pant blazes away in India's T20 World Cup warm-up match
Pant displayed his trademark fearlessness, taking Bangladesh's experienced spinner Shakib Al Hasan to the cleaners in the final over of the powerplay. Three mighty sixes β a sweep shot, his signature reverse lap, and a powerful slog sweep β signaled Pant's intentions. He continued his assault throughout his innings, reaching a well-deserved fifty in just 32 balls. Choosing to retire after his half-century, Pant generously provided an opportunity for his teammates to get acclimated to the New York conditions. While the rest of the Indian batting line-up faced challenges on the two-paced wicket, Pant's innings showcased his exceptional skill and composure. He made batting look effortless, a stark contrast to his teammates who struggled to find their rhythm. This dominant performance has no doubt boosted Pant's confidence and serves as a warning to India's upcoming opponents in the T20 World Cup. Besides Pant, Hardik Pandya too dazzled with the bat and scored a 23-ball 40 to help India post a big total of 182/5.

India went on to win the match by 60 runs as they bundled out Bangladesh for 122/9.
This match marked Rishabh Pant's much-anticipated return to international cricket. Following a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, Pant had undergone a rigorous recovery process. His return to the crease after six months was met with a thunderous roar of approval from the New York crowd. Pant's fearless shot-making had them captivated, as he effortlessly cleared the boundaries against both spinners and pacers.
Pant's dominant performance offered a significant confidence boost to Team India. His ability to adapt to different bowling styles bodes well for their upcoming tournament opener against Ireland. Interestingly, Pant batted at number 3 in this warm-up match, hinting at a possible change in his batting position for the World Cup. This could be a strategic move by the Indian team, aiming to maximize his impact in the crucial top order.
