Rohit Sharma becomes first ever batter in international cricket to achieve this feat, surpasses Babar Azam too with 37-ball 52

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front in the run chase against Ireland on June 5. On a pitch that assisted the pacers, Rohit played a match-winning knock of 37-ball 52 before he was retired hurt. During his knock, Rohit hit three sixes to become the first-ever batter in international cricket history to hit 600 sixes in international cricket (T20Is, ODIs and Tests combined). 
 

Rohit has 600 sixes from 473 games. Rohit has 84 sixes in Tests, 323 in ODIs and 193 in T20Is. He is followed by former West Indies opener Chris Gayle with 553 sixes from 483 games. Among current players, the next on the list is England's limited-overs captain Jos Buttler who has hit 330 sixes from 355 games. 

Rohit enters elite lists

Rohit also joined the elite list of batters who have scored 4,000 or more runs in T20Is. The top spot is occupied by Virat Kohli with 4,038 runs from 118 games. Rohit is not far behind with 4,026 runs from 152 games. He surpassed Pakistan captain Babar Azam who scored 4,023 runs from 119 games.

Rohit joined another elite list of batters. He became the third batter in T20 World Cups to score 1,000 or more runs. He has 1,015 runs from 40 games at an average of 36.25 including 10 half-centuries. The top spot is occupied by Kohli with 1,142 runs from 28 games. Former Sri Lanka captain is on the second spot with 1,016 runs from 31 games. Rohit is likely to surpass Jayawardene in India's next group stage clash against Pakistan on June 9.

Comprehensive win for India

In the run chase of 97 against Paul Stirling at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, Rohit was dropped at second slip in the first over itself. He made Irish bowlers pay for their mistakes. He took India to the doorstep of victory before returning to the dressing room retired hurt. This was Rohit’s 10th half-century in T20 World Cups. India won the game by eight wickets with 7.4 overs to spare.
