Following India's commanding Test series win over England, captain Rohit Sharma confessed he will announce his retirement the day he will wake up thinking he is not good enough. Under his leadership, India thrashed England by an innings and 64 runs in the Dharamsala Test on March 9. In a conversation with Dinesh Karthik after the match, Rohit was asked about the prospect of his retirement.

Rohit Sharma talks up his retirement plan

Rohit's response was candid, indicating that should there come a day when he felt he no longer met the standards required for cricket, he would communicate this to the team management. Nonetheless, the Indian opener acknowledged that he believes he has been playing some of his best cricket in recent years.

"I think if one day if I wake up and feel I'm not good enough, I'm not feeling good enough to play the sport. I'll just talk it out and let them know about it. But honestly, I feel in the last two or three years my cricket has actually gone up and I'm playing the best cricket," said Rohit.

Rohit-led India celebrated a significant achievement as it concluded the five-match series against England with a 4-1 victory. The final Test, against the team led by Ben Stokes, was wrapped up in less than three days with an innings win for India. This victory has strengthened India's standing in the World Test Championship points table, extending their lead at the summit. India now boasts a point percentage of 68.51, with six victories in nine matches. Meanwhile, England's point percentage has declined to 17.5, leaving the positions of other teams unchanged.

Rohit lauds young Team India

Rohit also lauded the performance of the young Team India for stepping up and delivering against England, even in the absence of senior players.

"When you win a Test like this, everything has to fall in place. At some stage people are gonna and people are gonna come and we know that. These guys are maybe short of experience, they have played a lot of cricket and I can stand here and see that these guys responded pretty well under pressure. The credit goes to the entire team and it was pleasing to see," Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

“When you win a series like this, we talk about scoring runs and 100s but it is important to take 20 wickets to win a Test. The way bowlers took responsibility was pleasing to see. It was over a period of time that we had a conversation (with Kuldeep), he's got a lot of potential and when the chips were down in the 1st innings, he bowled really well and after his injury he came back and worked at NCA and he is putting a lot of effort and the most pleasing thing was his batting,” Rohit concluded.
