During the India versus England Test series, India captain Rohit Sharma entertained everyone with many of his on-field comments which were recorded on the stump microphone. One particular Hindi phrase he used during the Visakhapatnam Test really grabbed people's attention. It was, "Koi garden mai nahi ghumega (No one will roam around in the garden)". This phrase became even more popular when Sharma posted a photo on his Instagram with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel, with a caption that included the same quote.

Later, Rohit Sharma explained the meaning behind this phrase on the Team Ro45 Instagram channel. He said that he was trying to motivate the players to be alert and focused on their job on the field.

Rohit Sharma explains intent behind his ‘Koi garden me nahi ghumega’ remark

“Sometimes I say things that are caught on the stump mic. But that’s me, that’s how I am. It is not to hurt anyone, but just to make sure that they are on the job, they’re thinking about the team and making a difference on the field. And I was very pleased to see everyone engage into that. That is this whole thing about me trying to tell them ki bhai, koi yaha pe ghumega nahi. Just make sure that you don’t forget the job in hand,” India skipper said.

“Whether it is me shouting at them, whether it is getting Sarfaraz to stand in one position, or whether me telling Jurel, ‘Bhai, isko aage bhadao, stumping nikalke dikha (Move the batsman forward, execute a stumping)," Rohit further said.

Rohit, who led India to 4-1 Test series victory against England, also revealed some interesting details about Dhruv Jurel's stumping of Ollie Pope during the fifth Test. He admitted that it was actually Sarfaraz Khan, who was positioned at short leg, who predicted that the English vice-captain, Ollie Pope, would come out of his crease.'

“By the way, that stumping was brilliant. Sarfaraz Khan was the one who predicted that. I had stationed him a bit further up, in short leg, when he said, ‘Now, he’ll leave the crease. Be ready for a stumping.’ Next ball…. brilliant,” Rohit said before conceding, “I thoroughly enjoyed playing with these boys. Hopefully in the future, we’ll play a lot more.”

Rohit enjoys India's young guns' company

Rohit had mixed feelings about playing alongside the young debutants during the Test series against England. While he clearly enjoyed the experience,  witnessing their journeys and the emotions surrounding their debuts left him feeling quite touched.

“Personally, I had so much fun working with these guys. They are all very naughty. I’ve seen them all play. For me it was easier because I knew them all, maybe one or two that I hadn’t followed very well, but the rest I knew very well. And I knew their game, their strengths and how they want to play the game,” the 36-year-old stated.

“For me it was about talking to them and telling them how good they are. Remind them of the good things they have done in the past. Yes, the situation is different, the team is different, the pressure… but everything else has to stay the same. So me and Rahul bhai had to talk to them a lot and the way they responded to us was amazing. I said, ‘Okay, they’re up for the challenge.’ The only thing is that they need the comfort in the team environment and we have tried to give that from our side,” Rohit concluded.

Rohit is now gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 where he will be seen in Mumbai Indians' jersey, however this time he won't be seen leading the side but playing mere as a batter. Hardik Pandya-led MI will open their IPL 2024's campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24.
