Rohit Sharma clears the air on who shouted 'yeh aage badhega' to orchestrate Ollie Pope's stumping and it's not wicket-keeper Dhurv Jurel
It was widely speculated that wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel was the one who shouted 'yeh aage badhega' to give a heads-up to left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Team India captain Rohit Sharma on March 20 (Wednesday) revealed the player's name who shouted 'yeh aage badhega (he will step out of the crease)' when Kuldeep Yadav was bowling to Ollie Pope during the first day of the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala. The phrase instantly went viral as Pope danced down the wicket right after the player was heard saying 'yeh aage badhega' on the stump mic as fans were thrilled by the anticipation and execution of the Indian players.
Who shouted 'yeh aage badhega'?
It was widely speculated that wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel was the one who shouted 'yeh aage badhega' to give a heads-up to Kuldeep Yadav. But it wasn't Jurel who made the prediction. Rohit revealed that Sarfaraz Khan, who was standing at short leg, was the one who shouted the phrase before Kuldeep bamboozled Pope with a stunning delivery.
“Whether it is me shouting at them, whether it is getting Sarfaraz to stand in one position, or whether me telling Jurel, ‘Bhai, isko aage bhadao, stumping nikalke dikha (Move the batsman forward, execute a stumping)’," Rohit said in a video shared on the Team Ro45 Instagram channel.
"By the way, that stumping was brilliant. Sarfaraz Khan was the one who predicted that. I had stationed him a bit further up, in short leg, when he said, ‘Now, he’ll leave the crease. Be ready for a stumping.’ Next ball…. brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with these boys. Hopefully in the future, we’ll play a lot more," the Indian skipper revealed.
How good was Kuldeep's delivery?
The left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep dished out a sensational delivery after he received the heads-up from Sarfaraz. The Indian spinner tossed the ball in the air, bowling it slow and wide of the off stump. Pope jumped out of his crease and was completely outfoxed by the googly. The English batter tried to adjust at the last second but the sheer brilliance of Kuldeep gave Pope no chance at all.
