Team India will lock horns against Ireland for their T20 World Cup 2024 opener clash which is scheduled to take place at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Rohit Sharma-led side will eye a winning start to boost their confidence in the marquee event. After that Team India will face Pakistan which will be the high-voltage clash of the tournament.

Current India captain Rohit Sharma is on the verge of breaking MS Dhoni's record of most T20 World Cup wins during the opener clash against Ireland. Indian cricket team under Rohit's captaincy have won 41 matches which is equal to Dhoni and now if India wins the opener clash against Ireland then this will be the 42nd win under Rohit. Dhoni-led India won 41 T20 World Cup matches out of 72 while Rohit is on the verge of beating that in just his 55th match as the captain. However, Dhoni was the only Indian captain who won the T20 World Cup. 

 

Virat Kohli set to break Mahela Jayawardene's T20 World Cup record

 

India batting great Virat Kohli is in lethal form in the recently concluded season of the Indian Premier League and he is the only cricketer who was awarded Player of the Tournament twice (2014-2016). Kohli scored 1141* runs in the history of the T20 World Cup which is the most by any cricketer. The former India captain loves to smash boundaries instead of going to maximums. Kohli has smashed 103 boundaries in his 27 India outings and he is just nine boundaries away from breaking the record of Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene who smashed 111 boundaries in 31 outings.

Not only Indian cricketers, Ireland star batter Paul Stirling is also in the verge of breaking Pakistan captain Babar Azam's T20I boundaries record to lead in the tally of most boundaries in the shortest format of the game. The Irish batter needs 16 boundaries to top the tally of most fours in the history of T20Is

India and Ireland have played eight matches against each other where India hold the edge by winning seven of them and one match ended with no result. The last clash between India and Ireland was played in 2023 where India beat Ireland by 33 runs.
