Focus on Rohit the batter in IPL 2024

One of the greatest white-ball batters of all time, Rohit Sharma's ability to destroy bowling attacks is well-documented. In the upcoming season of the IPL, the Hitman will look to set the records straight by putting a show with the bat. Surprisingly, the stylish right-handed batter has looked like a pale shadow of himself in the last four seasons of the IPL.

In IPL 2023, Rohit aggregated 332 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 132.80 while he averaged just 20.75. Shockingly, Rohit registered just six half-centuries in the last four editions of the IPL in 55 matches played.

Rohit Sharma no more the Mumbai Indians captain

For the first time in a decade, Rohit Sharma will not lead the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The decision-makers of the franchise removed Rohit from captaincy and handed the baton to Hardik Pandya. It came as a massive surprise to fans and pundits alike as Rohit had led the franchise to five IPL titles.

Newly-appointed captain Hardik spoke on taking the reigns from Rohit and said that the latter will continue to assist him throughout the competition.

"It won't be any different. He will be helping me when I need it. As mentioned, he is the Indian captain and I've played my whole career under him. So, I don't feel it would be awkward," Hardik said in the press conference on March 18.
