Rohit Sharma reacts to Indian batters' struggle against spin post demoralising ODI series defeat versus Sri Lanka, says 'it is something we...'

Indian captain Rohit Sharma dismissed concerns about the team's struggles against spin bowling following the 0-2 series defeat to Sri Lanka. India's batting collapse, resulting in a 110-run loss in the third ODI, marked the third consecutive failure to chase down a target in the series.

Despite the unexpected series loss, Rohit stated that facing spin is not a significant issue for the team. He also ruled out any complacency within the squad as a factor contributing to the defeats.

India's batting capitulation was evident as they were bowled out for a paltry 138 runs while chasing a lowly target of 249, resulting in a humiliating 110-run defeat, thanks to Sri Lanka's star spinner Dunith Wellalage's brilliant spell of 5/27.

“I don't think it is a concern. But it is something we have to look at indivdually and as a gameplan. It is a joke, when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of complacency. But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions and went with the combinations, there also guys who need to be looked at and hence the changes,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.

Rohit Sharma acknowledged that unexpected series losses can occur in cricket. He emphasized the importance of bouncing back from setbacks and expressed the team's determination to learn from the experience.

 

“There are lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives. These things happen, series lost is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation,” he added.

India's struggles against spin

 

India's batting woes were evident throughout the series, with the team losing a staggering 27 wickets to spin bowling. Sri Lanka's spin trio of Jeffrey Vandersay, Dunith Wellalage, and Charith Asalanka proved to be particularly effective, as Indian batters struggled to counter their spin attack.

Following the series defeat, India will shift their focus to the upcoming Bangladesh tour, which includes two Test matches and three T20 Internationals starting on September 19.
