'Really want to win World Cup, WTC Final': Rohit Sharma reveals his retirement plans ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed his retirement plans amidst the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said he is keen to win the World Cup and also the WTC final with the Men in Blue. The 36-year-old is set to captain the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is going to be held in USA and West Indies.

Earlier this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit will be leading the team in the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma came on the verge of becoming the world champion but suffered an unfortunate defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023 finals against Australia. Rohit led the Indian team to the final with ten wins in a row and even scored 597 runs in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma reveals his retirement plans

In a conversation with Gaurav Kapur and Ed Sheeran on the special edition of Breakfast with Champions, Rohit Sharma answered the question asked by Ed Sheeran on his retirement and further said he wants India to win the WTC final in 2025 in England.

"I haven't really thought about retirement. But, I don't know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time - so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don't know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully, India makes it," said Rohit

Rohit addresses loss in ODI World Cup 2023 Final

 

The Indian skipper talked about the ODI World Cup 2023 and mentioned in front of the home crowd they wanted to win the World Cup. However, Rohit also spoke about the Indian team’s performance and acknowledged it for playing good cricket.

 

"50-over World Cup for me is the actual world cup. We've grown up watching that World Cup. More importantly, it was happening in India in front of our home crowd. We played so well up until that final. When we won the semi-finals, I thought, now we're just a step away. We're doing all the things right. What's the one thing that can make us lose the World Cup? Not a single thing came to my mind. Because I thought we ticked all the boxes, we were playing good cricket. Confidence was there," he added.
