Will Sandeep Lamichhane be included in Nepal's T20 World Cup squad? Here comes the final verdict

Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane will be joining his national team in the West Indies portion of the T20 World Cup after being denied a visa for the matches held in the United States. Lamichhane faced rape charges in Nepal and a potential eight-year prison sentence, but the Kathmandu court ultimately overturned the conviction. Nepal attempted to include Lamichhane in the squad playing in the US, but his visa application was rejected twice. Nepal Cricket Association secretary Paras Khadka confirmed this news.

 

"Nepali player Sandeep Lamichhane will leave for the West Indies for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup and join the Nepali national cricket team,” Paras Khadka issued a statement,

Meanwhile, Lamichhane took to X, to express his happiness after being given clearance to join Nepal's T20 World Cup squad.

 

“I am now joining the national team for the last two matches in the West Indies and looking forward to fulfilling my dreams and the dream of all cricket lovers,” Lamichhane posted on X, 

 

"To all our cricket fans and people back home everywhere who prayed for me, I will forever be grateful for your blessings," his post read.

Sandeep Lamichhane, the talented leg-spinner, will bring valuable experience to Nepal's T20 World Cup campaign. Having competed in various T20 leagues worldwide, including the IPL, he's a proven performer.

Nepal, after a loss to the Netherlands in their first match, will now face Sri Lanka in Florida before traveling to the West Indies for matches against South Africa and Bangladesh. Lamichhane previously held the captaincy but faced a temporary suspension due to legal charges. Following his legal clearance, he was reinstated and even participated in last year's Asia Cup. His ability to adapt to the West Indies conditions will be crucial for Nepal's success. His last appearance for Nepal was in the November 2023 T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier final against Oman.
