'I've seen him for so many years, but even I don't know what exactly is with him': Rohit Sharma fails to explain Jasprit Bumrah's masterclass

Bowlers win you tournaments was proved right as India won the T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. Jasprit Bumrah changed the game yet again and was adjudged ‘Player of the match’. Bumrah was the last throw of the dice after Heinrich Klaasen smashed Axar Patel all around the park to make the equation 30 runs from 30 balls. Bumrah brought India back in the game with an economical over and then dismissed Marco Jansen with a peach of a delivery. After the win, skipper Rohit Sharma struggled to put into words what he witnessed in the final and has been for several years playing alongside Bumrah. 
 

“I can understand you guys trying to put it into words but I've been someone who has seen him for so many years, even playing alongside him, but even I don't what exactly is with him. I know exactly what he brings to the table but how he does that, it is just a masterclass. He backs his skills which is more than enough and he is a very confident lad. Whatever he wants to do, he executes to perfection which is a very rare sight. Jasprit Bumrah, to put it in one word, he's a class act,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

Bumrah's record-breaking run

Bumrah took 15 wickets from eight games in the tournament at an average of 8.27. He conceded just 124 runs in the edition at an economy rate of 4.17 runs per over. He broke the record for lowest economy rate of a T20 World Cup edition. The previous record was held by former West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine. The mystery spinner had an economy rate of 4.60 runs per over in 2014.

Bumrah gets emotional

Bumrah was emotional as he got the ‘Player of the tournament’ award. He admitted that India were in trouble before exceptional bowling in last five overs turned the game upside down.
 

“Usually I’m the one who tries to keep my emotions in check and get the job done but today I don’t have many words, I don’t usually cry after a game but the emotions are taking over. We were in trouble but we’re really over the moon to win from that stage. My family is here, we came close last time and we got the job done, there’s no better feeling than to get your team through in a game like this,” said the 30-year-old.
